Dylan's Graduation Party

My oldest son Dylan graduated from the University of Houston in December. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Supply Chain Management. We're extremely proud of him!

I thought I'd share a few pics from the table decorated for his graduation party.

A little blurry, but you get the picture. :)

We knew he'd be graduating in December and I didn't know if the stores would have the UH plates, etc. in the winter, so I grabbed these up last June when it was prime graduation season.

We had bunco buns, an assortment of chips, garlic pickles, cupcakes with my homemade buttercream frosting, caramels, and cinnamon pecans and lemonade.

I had to show a pic of these cute trays before we loaded them up with bunco buns...

Here are the cinnamon pecans...

Here's my Cinnamon Pecans recipe:

1 egg white
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
(you'll mix the above three ingredients first)

2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 tablespoon sugar
2 cups pecans

Beat egg white, 1/2 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla with fork. Mix 2 teaspoons cinnamon and 1 tablespoon sugar and add to egg white mixture. Add 2 cups pecans and mix well. Place on sprayed foil lined cookie sheet and bake at 250 degrees 45 minutes, turning pecans over half way. Store in ziplock bag.

And here are the caramels...

I used Nana Diana's recipe for the caramels and they were the best ones I've ever tasted!!! No kidding, y'all...this was the easiest recipe ever with no candy thermometer involved. Click HERE for her recipe. I have a fear of candy thermometers. Seriously, if a recipe calls for one, I'm out of there. It's just that they seem to be SO specific. Like, a recipe will say "bring the temp to 222 degrees." Really??? 222??? Like 221 will be too low and 223 too high? Nope. Too stressful for me. :) Diana's recipe was so good! Everyone loved them and they're very soft too. They practically melt in your mouth. They're made entirely in the microwave too! No stove top needed. Love that!

  1. What a great graduation party. I have never heard those little buns called Bunco buns before. We call them Sliders here....cuz they slide down so easy.

I am saving your recipe for the pecans. I won't make them for myself because I am OFF sugar but I know that someone in my family loves them---so will make them with the intent to deliver so I am not tempted. They are a favorite of mine.

So glad you liked the caramels. They are TOO GOOD, aren't they?

Congrats to your Dylan. I know you are SO very proud of him. xo Diana

  2. Congrats to Dylan. How proud you must be. It is hard as mom's to see our babies grow into young adults but it helps our hearts sing when we see what great adults they are becoming. You did good with Dylan. He is going to carve out a nice life journey for himself. You and your hubby are good role models. All the decorations and food look so yummy. I have not tried Diana's caramels but I hear they are fabulous. Glad you tried them. Have a great Sunday.

  3. Congratulations to Dylan! You must be so proud of him! What a delicious looking party! Now I want to make those caramels, sandwiches and the pecans! Never tried any of them (cause I'm with you on my fear of candy recipes!!) Thanks for sharing and all the best to your son!

    1. Thank you so much, Kendra! We're so happy and proud of him. :) Glad I'm not alone in my fear of candy recipes. Lol!

  4. Congratulations to you and your son!!!!! The party decorations look great....I know you must be so proud of him :o)

  5. Congrats to your Dylan, great job and way to go!! Sure enjoy you sharing the menu/decorations with us, they were fun! I am going to try the caramel recipe, those look delicious! I will use my candy thermometer to make homemade pralines and that is THE ONLY TIME I WILL USE

  6. Congratulations to the whole family! Love, love your table decorations for the party and the food loos amazing. Leave it to Diana to make us put a little weight in the New Year. LOL I love her and her caramels to pieces. :) Take care, Lisa.

  7. Congratulations to your son and to his mom and dad...where would our children be without us, right? Your table is so fun and the food looks delish!

    Warm hugs,
