Favorite Things

I thought I'd share a few favorite things I've been enjoying. Have y'all tried this Minute Maid soft frozen stuff? My aunt told me about it and it's amazing! The limeade cherry is my favorite. They also have orangeade, lemonade and strawberry lemonade. My store has these for $1.

And who can resist CPK BBQ Chicken? I first had this in Las Vegas at California Pizza Kitchen restaurant and it's been a favorite ever since. I love that most stores carry these now.

Another favorite thing is my sink rack...

Mine is in two pieces and was specially made for my sink...

I can't tell you how much we like it! It keeps cookware from scratching my white sink. I used to always have to use Bar Keeper's Friend to clean those silver scratches from pots and pans off my white sink. They don't even touch the sink when we're cleaning them now, so this fixed that problem. I love the little cutout for the drain too.

You can see below how the rack is lower on one side. This is because our Kohler sink has a sloped bottom to assist in draining. This rack is by Kohler and custom made to fit our farmhouse sink with that slope. See how the legs are shorter on the left side? Neat, huh?

That rack was well worth the money. I think mine was only $30. I just remove it weekly when I clean house and scrub it down when I clean the sink.

You may have noticed I decided to bring my gumball container back out. I love the fun pops of color. :)

But don't eat the gum...the same ones have been in there for years. Lol!

Another favorite lately is this Ginger Candy...

best ginger chews

Sina Ginger Candy, $1.28 at HEB. These are also available on Amazon. You can probably find ginger candy at your local grocery store too. I know Trader Joe's carries some. At my store, they were in the international section, on the Asian aisle.

I discovered these by accident. On a whim, I picked them up at our grocery store because my son likes ginger. Then I got the flu and had terrible nausea. I remembered hearing ginger is great for combating nausea, so I tried one. Almost immediately, I felt better! Like, A LOT better. So of course I googled it and ginger is good for so many things...it helps with nausea, arthritis, inflammation, vomiting, motion sickness, dizziness, prenatal nausea (wish I would have known that 20 years ago!) and a whole list of other ailments. AND it contains antioxidants. Who knew?!

I personally love the taste of ginger. These candy chews contain 7% ginger and have a nice heat to them too. A little spicy, but very tasty.

And of course, y'all know I have to include a ton of pics, so here's some info from the box...

Here's the description from the HEB app...

You can even make ginger tea with them!

I love it! Have you ever tried ginger candy? What did you think?

So I've been looking for these "That's It" bars for awhile. My local Target now carries them and I couldn't wait to try them. They are appropriately named because they only have 2 ingredients and that's it.

Click HERE for a link. They have no preservatives, juices, concentrates or purees. They're non GMO, no fat, gluten free, all natural, kosher, vegan and raw.

Each one of these is made from one apple and 10 cherries and that's all! Here's what the bars look like...

that's it fruit bars

I really liked them and can't wait to try more flavors. They have apple and blueberries, apple and mango, apple and strawberries, apple and apricots, apple and pineapple, apple and pear, apple and banana and apple and coconut. Each one has a different amount of the two fruits, but it's still just the two ingredients.

I've been wanting to try mineral makeup for a long time, but couldn't bring myself to pay for bare Minerals. I currently use L'Oréal Infallible foundation and powder and love it, so I gave this L'Oréal True Match Mineral makeup a try...

loreal mineral powder favorite things

I bought the same color as my infallible powder and it matched. I can't believe how much coverage it has. It's has "buildable" coverage, meaning you can keep adding more for more coverage. I really like it, but I'm not sure how it's going to work once our summer humidity hits. Right now, with our low temps, it's fine and I like the look. However, I didn't like the brush that comes with it. I use my Eco Tools Kabuki brush instead...

Another thing on my list of favorites is LED bulbs. We recently replaced almost all our bulbs with LED ones and our home is so much brighter now. Here's a pic of my bathroom with the new bulbs...

When we had our old incandescent bulbs in here, the counters actually looked yellow. But now they're bright white with the new bulbs. These bulbs turn on immediately. No waiting around for them to fully come on like the old style.

These are the ones we buy at Home Depot...

They're pretty economical, as far as LED bulbs go. We use the "soft white" ones, but my son has the "daylight" ones in his room.

I gotta say though...we tried replacing our Christmas tree lights with LEDs. Nope. Couldn't stand it! They were too bright and were like lazers poking me in the eye every time I looked right at them! Ha ha! We had to remove them and go back to our regular lights.

Next up is The Negg Egg Peeler...

Y'all...I cannot believe how well this works!!! I always have a hard time peeling boiled eggs. It seems like half the white part comes off when I peel them. And yes, I've tried every way to boil eggs and none of them worked. Then my aunt gave this to me (the same aunt who told me about the Minute Maid stuff) and I couldn't wait to try it. It has directions on how to boil your egg, then do an ice bath. Then you put a little water in the container, add your boiled egg, put the lid on and shake it up.

I found that about 10 shakes was perfect.

Here's what they look like when they come out of the container. Then you just peel them and they come out perfectly! Tip: I empty the water between each egg. Just add a fresh 1/4 cup water before adding each egg to the container.

Here are my perfectly peeled boiled eggs...

And last but not least, Instagram. I LOVE Instagram! I've made so many sweet friends over there and you can get so much decor inspiration. You can find me @texasdecor. I'd love for you to follow along. I posted my 2017 Best Nine posts recently...

These were my most liked pics of 2017. Kitchens are always popular on IG, I guess. :)

What are your favorite things lately?

  2. I didn't know about the ginger candy, but will look for it! I like the idea of making tea with it, sounds so quick and easy.Ive never heard of the egg peeler and I love the bare minerals make up and Neutrogena has a very good mineral loose powder foundation, it stays on very well even in the hot humid weather down here, and I use my own "buki" brush as well and not the one they provide. I did try the Loreal, but like the Neutrogena alot better. I like your reviews alot, please keep doing them!

  3. Thanks for sharing all this good stuff Lisa! Definitely going to look for that ginger candy at HEB & the fruit bars at Target. I really enjoy when you share your favorite things list. Sometimes I think it would be fun to switch baskets at the grocery store just to see what else people buy. Blessings!

  4. These are all great finds Lisa. Back when I was working as an oncology nurse the best thing we could give patients were pieces of ginger for the nausea after treatments for cancer. It does work great for nausea. Love that egg peeler. Have a great Sunday.
    Hugs,

  5. 've used that mineral powder before and really liked it. Right now I'm using Maybelline BB Cream....it's kind of a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen. My face is not very lined (or maybe I'm going blind and just can't see them), considering my age and where I live; so the tinted moisturizer seems to work well.

That egg thing looks interesting. I was told one time by a "chicken pro" that the fresher the eggs, the harder they are to peel. Who knows!

Definitely, the soft white for those bulbs! The Man has come home on occasion with brite white
and they almost make things look blue and very cold. Your bathroom looks great btw.

Hope 2018 is off to a great start for you and your family!
