Extreme Heat, Flowers, and Sales

Hello, everyone! I've been taking a bit of a blogging break as we enjoy the summer. We're just whiling away the days enjoying the break from schedules, homework, car lines, etc. :)

I certainly hope y'all aren't experiencing the extreme heat we're having here. We've got temps inching up towards 100 all week long. This is our hottest part of the year and it's not fun.

Just to elaborate a little, I set this thermometer on one of the stepping stones in our backyard and within about a minute this is what it read...

Yep, 130 degrees!!! This is why we can't walk on the sidewalks barefoot. Lol!

This is also why we plant a lot of heat tolerant flowers like this Lantana. It loves the heat, thank goodness.

The Crepes enjoy the heat as well.

We had so much rain the last two months, it's hard to believe our grass is already getting dry, but when I was taking these pics I noticed some cracks in the ground. We really need to turn on the sprinklers soon.

Love this blue sky!

The Knock Outs are doing okay, but would probably enjoy a little rain.

In other news, have you heard about the big Amazon Prime Day sale tomorrow, July 15th? It starts tonight at midnight and is for one day only. It's exclusively for Prime members, but you can get a 30 day trial of Prime for free to get in on the savings. Supposedly the prices are going to rival black Friday and Target and Walmart are getting in on it too by offering "substantial online savings."

Might be worth a look if you've been wanting to purchase something that's been in your cart for awhile. Let me know if you get any good deals. :)

I have a small kitchen project I'm working on and a little lamp re-do and will hopefully have pics to share soon. Have a great week and stay cool!

~Lisa

  1. We are drying up here too but it sure is pretty for now! We look around and just can't believe how much prettier it is this year since we've had some rain. The trees are so much more lush. :)

  4. Wow! it is very hot there! We got some relief last night from the heat since a thunderstorm came through our area last night. the wind was severe and took down a huge tree in the woods behind our house. We're so thankful that it fell away from our house instead of on it!!! So, my husband has some cleaning up to do today. Your flowers are all looking so good! I need to go check out the sales today. thanks for the heads up!

  5. Wow Lisa you guys are really getting the hot summer days. We here in the midwest are just getting so much rain and cooler temps. We need a few days of sunshine and heat could you send a little of that our way! Your backyard looks beautiful.

  6. Looking forward to seeing your kitchen project and lamp! Can you believe how hot it's been? I've been working on a flower bed the last 3 days and could barely stand it. You're so right - all that rain we had is long gone - we have cracks in our soil as well. Amazing how quickly things changed. Your plants are thriving, even with the heat. Lovely!! :)

  7. Oh, we know about those hot temps, but at least our humidity is still fairly low. I had to chuckle last night watching the weather report. The "weather guesser" was so excited to tell us we were having a cool-down.....all the way down to 100! Actually, 100 with 22% humidity really isn't that bad! We have lantana in our yard, and I'm totally convinced that stuff is a weed -- nothing kills it! Your yard looks really good!

  8. Our temps are so up and down ad well as rain and terrible humidity. Today was perfect and I spent as much time as I could in the backyard with my dogs---it's so therapeutic!!! Love your pretty plants, I hope it cools off soon and you get more rain. It's never ideal for anyone, is it?

Hubby just bought a new TV for our den at Amazon during this sale---it's awesome (the sale!).

    1. This heat really is terrible, but I guess on the upside, we can pretty much grow pretty flowers year round. But I still wish we could have a little snow in the winter. :) Enjoy your weekend!

  10. We had nice weather last week...it was in the 80's. This week we're in the mid 90's so it's a lot hotter! We've only hit a couple days (maybe a few) of 100's.
Anywho, your heat tolerant plants are so pretty! My hydrangeas are already drying out so I don't think my hydrangea garden dream will be coming to pass in this valley. I at least need to find somewhere that sells them fresh so I can bring them home. I love seeing white one's in vases!
I hope you have a fabulous Thursday, friend!! Stay cool!

  11. Wow, that is hot! We've had temps in the 30s all last week and now this week it was cooler! It was a nice change but I'm ready for hot weather again :) Your yard is looking lovely, as always! Keep enjoying summer before it's back to routine! ;)

  13. Your garden is gorgeous! I definitely need to plant some Lantana. We are such a severe drought over here in California! Thanks for the beautiful inspirations!

    1. Thanks, J! The lantana would be wonderful in your climate. We're almost reaching drought status. Again. Ugh. Enjoy your week!
