My New Toy (And How I Got It Free)

Hi, y'all! I shared this on Instagram, but I just had to share it here too in case any of you are thinking of buying one of these.

This is my new apple peeler/corer/slicer I got (for free) on Amazon. More about how I got it for free at the bottom of the post. :)

I've wanted one of these for years, but I kept putting it off because I was afraid it would be too hard to clean. Well, let me tell you, it's not hard AT ALL to clean. I love it and wish I'd had it when my boys were smaller. It would have made peeling their apples so much easier. :)

The one I got is called the Victorio VKP1010 from Amazon. It has an enamel coated cast iron body with stainless steel blades and a suction cup base. It's about $25.

Wanna see how I use it? First turn the lever to suction it to the counter. Then put the apple on the fork (stem end first)

Then, just turn the handle and the apple will advance toward the blades and the peeling will begin! It only takes about 5 SECONDS to peel an apple. Yes...five SECONDS!!

Here's the apple when it's done peeling.

Just remove the apple and the core will remain on the fork. Then just push in the shaft lever and pull back on the handle and the core will be ejected by the coring/slicing blade.

Ta-da!

Here's what the apples will look like after they're peeled and cored. Kind of like a spiral. Or a slinky. :)

If you cut them like this...

You'll have perfect little slices for an apple pie. Or just to eat by themselves. :) I like to sprinkle mine with a little cinnamon.

Now for the clean up. I just hold these metal parts under running water, scrub it a little with a soapy sponge, then rinse and wipe them clean with a paper towel. There's really nothing to it!

The only parts you really have to worry about cleaning are the ones the arrows are pointing to. (the fork, the peeling blade, and the coring/slicing blade)

Doesn't that make you want one now? :) I would have bought one so much sooner if I would have realized it was so easy to clean. You could peel an entire bowl of apples in no time.

Okay, so here's how I got it for free...(and I'm not getting paid for any of this) I have an Amazon Visa Card. If you go to the Amazon website and click on the picture of the Amazon Rewards Credit card on the right hand side of the screen, it'll take you to a page where you can apply for the card.

Also, The Today Show just did a segment on the best credit cards out there and the Amazon Visa was the first one they talked about!

When you get approved, $30 will automatically be loaded into your Amazon account for you to use! So, you get $30 just for signing up for the card! There's also no annual fee.

We've had this card for many years now and the best part is that you accumulate points for every purchase you make at Amazon.com and everywhere else too. It works just like a regular Visa card and it's accepted anywhere Visa is accepted.

Here's how the point system works:

You earn one point for every dollar spent on the card.
100 points = $1 toward your Amazon purchase.

However, Amazon.com purchases get you TRIPLE points. So, for every dollar you spend at Amazon, you earn three points.

You also get double points at gas stations, restaurants, and drug stores.

They automatically upload your points to your Amazon account. When you go to make a purchase on Amazon.com, if you have points to use, it'll ask you during the check out process if you want to use your points or not. You can even use just some of your points. You don't have to use them all at the same time. It's very easy to check your point balance too, so you know what you have before making a purchase.

Let's say you spend $100 on Amazon.com...that gets you 300 points and 300 points = $3.00 towards your Amazon purchase. (remember Amazon purchases earn triple points)

It may not sound like a lot now, but for instance, we put our groceries and gas on that card and it adds up quickly.

We also put any big purchases on the Amazon Visa like my son's college tuition and books. Now, THAT gets us a lot of points! LOL! (of course, we always pay off the balance in full each month)

Your points also never expire, so you don't have to use them right away. We sometimes save a lot of points to use at Christmas and get extra gifts for people.

I used some of my points to get the apple peeler for free recently. I love to get free stuff!

I know a lot of people get credit cards that specifically earn them airline miles and stuff like that, but we're not travelling much right now, but we do however purchase something at Amazon almost weekly, so this card is working out really well for us.

I just checked and we now have over $100 in Amazon points. Yippee! That'll give us an extra $100 to spend on Christmas gifts. :)

So, if you're looking for a new credit card, you might want to check this one out. And again, I'm not getting anything out of this, I just wanted to pass on a good deal if someone's in the market for a new credit card.

Oh...one more thing. They also give college students all kinds of discounts if they get their own Amazon.com Visa. My son has one and he gets Amazon Prime (that's where you get free 2 day shipping) for half price. Amazon Prime is usually $79/year, but they give it to college students for only $40/year. They also have good deals on college textbooks as well as other things.

Does anyone else have the Amazon Visa? Do you like it? Or do you have another favorite credit card that offers rewards?

Also, be sure to check back Friday when I'll be sharing a ton of pics of my Thanksgiving decor. :)

Thanks for visiting!

  1. I love your apple, peeler, corer, slicer! It reminds me of the one that Pampered Chef used to sell before I had ever heard of it before. I've never used one myself though. They used to be so expensive! Yours is a really good price (of course in your case, it was free). I did not know about the Amazon Visa. Thanks for telling us about it. My husband handles our financial stuff so I'll let him know about it if he's ever looking for a new credit card. I'm sure he'll say, we have plenty thank you! LOL! I think if you can be disciplined to pay it off every month, it's a great way to earn free stuff.

  2. I need this ASAP! My daughter loves apple slices but this mommy very much dislikes peeling and slicing them!
I have that Amazon card too and love the points you get!

  3. We had one of those when my kids were little. My son would sit and peel apples for hours and actually eat them just because it was fun. :)

  4. We had one of those many years ago, but have no idea what happened to it. Oh well, I leave apple pie baking up to our DIL (she's a Pastry Chef), & hubby and I prefer to eat the apple peel for the additional fiber -- lol, that's an age-thing!

  5. I heard of this from a blogger right after my apple pie making spree last month. Peeling the apples took the longest. So thanks for the tip, I will check out Amazon. And it sounds like they have a great credit card. I've only bought books from them in the past but my son tells me they have the best prices on everything.

    Have a great weekend!

    XO,
    Jane
