Around The House

Oh y'all...it is SO hot here! Our "feels like" temp has been hovering between 107 and 109. Lord. Our blinds are closed up tight to keep out the heat. I can't wait until the fall when we can have them open again.

I figure we still have about two more months of this heat before we're blessed with highs "only" in the 80's. This is definitely the hottest time of the year here in the Houston area. We have heat warnings almost daily.

So what do you do when it's so hot outside? Well, you eat this...

I mean, seriously...look at the forecast...

And you take pictures of the inside of your house because it's just too hot to go outdoors...

I spent this particular afternoon drinking cooled coffee (because it was too hot for hot coffee and I didn't want to mess with iced coffee) and perusing the latest Ballard catalog...

I'm kind of loving the pop of color the stained glass, vase and rug add to the foyer...

So many things I love about this next picture. First off, Miss Holly Joaquin. She's taking her job of "sofa cushion karate chopper" seriously. And see that ladybug mug? I got that because I used to tell my boys "Ladybug stories" when they were little. Just made up stories about a Ladybug and her friend, Alligator. Original names, I know. ;)

Also, the photos on the wall. Those were taken at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. My boys are actually in the first pic, but you can't really tell. BTW I was so happy when I found those barn wood frames at Kirklands. And last but not least, that jar or vase, or whatever it's called (on the end table) that my sister in law gave me. I love it!

Here's a closer pic of the photos and the vase...

And of course a close up of Miss Holly...

I told her to look at the camera and she graced me with opening one eye. I woke her from a nap, so this was expected. Lol.

  2. Lisa, That is too hot. I know you can't wait to get to windows open and enjoy the outside air. I love the frames and your vase. I want to hug your cat...aren't they just crazy creatures. So much personality. Blessings, stay cool, xoxo, Susie

  3. Wow!!! That is really hot! We rarely even get into the 80s in August most days. It has been in the 50s the last few nights and early mornings. However, 80 feels hotter here because of our high, high humidity. We are on a peninsula surrounded on both sides by water--Lake MI and the bay of Green Bay.
Enjoy your 'inside time'. xo Diana

  4. Wow I don't know how we are getting so lucky but it's not that hot in the Dallas area. We've been having rain off and on all summer and along with it come cooler temps. It has really been a blessing because we put in a sod yard 6 weeks ago.

  5. Wow! Now that's hot!!! I don't blame you for staying inside. That kind of heat is dangerous. I hope Fall makes an early appearance to give you some relief!

  6. Hi Lisa, your stained glass window is beautiful! I think your kitty has the right idea. I'm starting to love rainy & cloudy days so it's not quite as hot.
Let's pray we actually get a Fall & Winter this year! Stay cool!

  7. Even with the temps outside so hot your home feels cool and comfy on the inside. Hopefully soon you will get some relief from those high temps. We are having a cooler than normal August here in the midwest. I kind of am enjoying the lower 80's temps. Hope you begin to get some relief soon.
Holly is so cute and has the right idea just stay in and take a nap!!!!
    xoxo

    1. I bet Virginia weather is great right now! It's got to be cooler than Houston, anyway. :) I'll pass on the compliment on the stained glass to my hubby! Thank you!

    1. We're trying to stay cool and we're definitely counting the days until mid October when the humidity will drop. :) Happy Weekend!

  10. Yikes, that is so hot! I am not sure I could live in your climate. Of course, we have weeks at a few degrees below zero in the winter...I frankly can't deal with that either! 😉
