A Look Around The Kitchen and Hot Sauce

Hello! Now that all the Christmas stuff is put away, I thought I'd snap a few pics of my kitchen in its "regular" decor state. You know...before I pull out the Valentine's Day decor. :)

The last time you saw my dough bowl, it was filled with Christmas Ornaments and Ribbon. After the holidays, I just filled it with (real) apples. Ever since we got our Apple Peeler, we've been eating a lot more apples. It literally takes seconds to peel, core, and slice an apple. I now buy granny smith apples in five pound bags. :)

The buffet in the kitchen is back to housing my everyday decor. I tried to fill it up with more white accessories so they would show up against the dark wood.

I love that little wire bird cage I got on clearance at Hob Lob for around $2. I got the green pagoda from the Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco. Love that city!

I enjoy picking up little decorative items while on vacation like this picture of Antoines restaurant in New Orleans. More on that in a minute...

This wire basket is one of my favorite things to decorate for the holidays, but it's always nice to go back to regular decor for a while.

I'm still enjoying these nesting measuring cups my hubby got for me at Pier 1.

Here's a closer look at the picture we picked up in New Orleans. It actually has a neat story to go with it. It's a piece of roofing slate that was used on one of the old buildings in the Vieux Carre area and dates back to the late 1700's.

Here's what it says on the back of the slate.

The buffet is the perfect place to display plates, etc. because of the grooves in the shelves.

Okay...on to hot sauce. My mom was watching Dr. Oz the other day and he was talking about how good this particular hot sauce is for you, so she bought us a bottle. It really is good, but very hot. :) Sometimes I like to put hot sauce on my popcorn instead of butter and this stuff is great for that!

Here's a close up of the bottle. It's called "Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce." Apparently all the spices in it are fabulous for you. I got mine at my local HEB, but have seen it at lots of other grocery stores. We were watching an episode of The Big Bang Theory last week, and they had a big bottle of this on the coffee table while they were eating! :)

Y'all come back Friday when I'll be showing pics of what our backyard used to look like when our boys were little. It doesn't even look like the same backyard. Let's just say we should have bought stock in Little Tikes toys. ;)

Well, that's all for now. Hope y'all have a wonderful week!

  2. Your kitchen is pretty! I really like your hutch - that's a beautiful piece of furniture. I'll have to tell my son about your sriracha on popcorn. We've been eating that for years but never on popcorn.

  3. It's nice to see that dough bowl filled with fresh apples! I'm sure that encourages everyone to snack on them more often too. Your hutch is very nice. I like the idea of filling it with white items for contrast. That old piece of roof slate you bought is wonderful. I love buying souveniers like that. I once bought an old brick from Savannah. It always feels like you have something special. I've never heard of putting hot sauce on popcorn before! I can see how it would be good though since popcorn can be flavored so many ways these days. Not bad for a healthy snack huh?

  4. Your kitchen looks pretty with it's "everyday" décor. I love your nesting bowl set, I bet they are handy to have out on the counter?!?!?! I have never had hot sauce on popcorn but then I don't eat a lot of hot sauce. LOL!!!

  5. Your home looks great dressed more simply since the holiday decor. It's always kind of fun to create a more serene setting after all the glitter and glitz of the holidays.

  6. Your kitchen looks perfect for this time of year. I wish we ate more fruit, Abby used to and now they are just letting it sit in the fridge until I throw it out. I love the apples in the dough bowl and your hutch is just beautiful. I so wish I had the room.

The hot sauce looks great. I love making chicken wings with it, I have to look for it.

I hear ya on the Little Tikes! :)

    XO,
    Jane

  7. Lisa, your kitchen looks beautiful! Love the dough bowl with the apples. Everything looks so pretty and clean. My youngest loves hot sauce, so I think I am going to have to get a bottle of this one for him to try. At least I know it will be good for him. :) On popcorn, yum!!! LOL

    1. Thanks, Robin! Apparently that sauce really is good for you. My mom said Dr. Oz kept talking about how it has the perfect blend of "good" spices in it. It's always nice to find out that something you love to eat is actually good for you. How often does that happen??? Yep, almost never. ;)
