Bar Keepers Friend, Holly Cat, and Expiration Dates on Dressing

Pretty funny title, huh? This is kind of a "household tips" post with an added pic of Holly the cat. :) I think most of you already know about this, but just in case you don't, I wanted to do a post about it. Do you ever get those marks on the inside of your mugs from stirring your coffee or tea? Our mugs get these little circular lines on them.

You might have to click on this pic to enlarge it, but you can see what I'm talking about.

Bar Keepers Friend to the rescue! It's really cheap too. I paid less than a dollar for it at Walmart.

I just put some gloves on and sprinkle a little in the bottom of the mug, then I scrub it with a damp paper towel. I've used a sponge before, but the paper towel works better for me.

Then I just rinse it out and run it through the dishwasher. Good as new! Bar Keepers Friend also gets those silver marks out of your sink. I have a white porcelain sink and whenever I clean an aluminum pan in there, it leaves those silver marks in the sink. I sprinkle a little Bar Keepers Friend in there and scrub with a paper towel and they're gone instantly.

This is kind of silly, but you know how those stamped on expiration dates kind of wear off of things when you put them in your fridge? I think it's from taking the item in and out of the fridge, and condensation forms on the bottle and then when you grab the bottle, your fingers can smudge the expiration date right off. Well, as soon as I bring things like salad dressing home from the store, I immediately write the expiration date on the bottle with a permanent marker. Sometimes I put a strip of masking tape on there first, then write the date on that. Kind of cheesy, but it works. :) The permanent marker doesn't seem to wear off over time.

I had to post this pic of Holly cat. She was keeping a close eye on a lizard outside. Ha!

Hope you picked up some good tips! Enjoy your day!

  1. We love BKF. It works great on my stainless sink too.

I'm kind of a control freak when it comes to condiments in the fridge. My family will open so many bottles of things that we could never use them all. So I sort of monitor what gets opened. That's mean isn't it? :)

  2. I never knew that about Barkeeper's Friend. I remember my mom using it for a lot of things. And I do have the little circles in my mugs. I use soft scrub in my porcelain enamel sink to keep it super white.

My kids are very weird about expiration dates...more than me!! This is a great tip! Maybe they will give me a little credit!

    Holly is SO cute!

    Have a great weekend!
