Backyard Pics and Zinnia Seed Update

So, do you want to see how well my zinnia seeds are doing???

Umm...yeah...I've given up on seeds. Lol! This is after about a month and obviously something has been eating them. So, I made a trip to the garden center and picked up my favorite go-to flower, the Purple Gomphrena.

Please take note of my fancy Garfield gardening shovel. ;) I think it originally came with a set we bought for the kids to use at the beach, but it works perfectly for planting my flowers.

It's funny because I got this six pack of Gomphrena for less than I paid for a few packets of seeds. I need to learn to just go with what works, especially in the garden. :)

The Gomphrena does so well here. It's heat tolerant, constantly has beautiful blooms ALL summer long, and it even hates to be watered a lot. Perfect, huh?

Here are a few more pics of my backyard right now...

My mom gave me this sweet basil, so I planted it on the patio. I love basil.

And look who keeps coming back... It's my shamrock plant from last year! I kept pulling it up and discarding it, but it just keeps coming back strong, so I decided to leave it. I actually love shamrocks and the pretty white flowers are a bonus.

My lantana is blooming a lot earlier this year.

If you look closely in the foreground of the pic above, you'll see where my hubby planted some of the shamrocks I kept pulling up. They seem to grow anywhere around here!

Well, that's about it. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful day!

  4. Your backyard looks like such a relaxing place to be! Everything always looks good and manicured, love it! I'm not a seed kind of gal either. I like instant gratification and I feel like the longer I stare at the pot to see if it's growing the longer it takes lol.

I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day weekend friend :)

Oh- and I LOVE that you use what used to be your boys' beach shovel for gardening :)

  5. Everything looks so pretty, Lisa! I like the purple flowers! Seeds are hard...I can never remember where I've planted them to water them! lol!

  6. I've never tried seeds before! I don't have a lot of faith that they will grow. I've never heard of that flower that you planted. It must not be native here. It sounds like it would be perfect here thought too since it loves the hot sun and not a lot of water. That's perfect for the dog days of summer! I always have trouble getting flowers to stay alive in our heat . After the summer arrives, it's all down hill from there. Your yard looks beautiful! I love how healthy your grass looks and how you've edged your yards with flowers.

  7. Hey Lisa. I thought I left you a message once already but I don't see it. Hmmm....wonder what I did wrong. I wanted to say that your yard is amazing!! That Houston weather is working for you and your garden. Get some more zinnia seeds and try again. They like it hot! Mine are just now really coming up and we will have hundreds of blooms this summer. :)

  8. Love, love your back yard! I'm not familiar with the purple flower ~ thanks for sharing! My balcony get the afternoon sun so it's difficult to have something live. As much as I love flowers and plants, the summer heat/sun burns them up. :(
