Family Room "Curtains" for $5!

Thought I'd show my $5 "curtains" in my family room today. Here's a pic:
(You can tour my family room HERE and my kitchen HERE )

These are actually $5 twin flat sheets from Walmart. :) They were the perfect width and length. The twin flat sheets are 66 inches wide by 96 inches long.

The 96 inch length was perfect for creating a "puddling" effect at the bottom. I also hung them upside down, so it would look like a natural "hem" at the bottom.

I got the curtain rod at Big Lots for $17. It's called "eggbeater" because the tip looks like an eggbeater. Appropriately named, for sure. :) The curtain ring clips are from Big Lots too. They were only $8 for a 10 pack.

So, I was able to get a brand new look for my windows for $35. Not too shabby. I'll be posting a "favorite things" post really soon with some of my new favorite beauty products, etc. so be sure to check back for that. Thanks for stopping by!

Favorite Product for Weed Control

Well, isn't it ironic that I'm talking about weed control and I have dandelions as my blog background? Ha! Anyway, I hate pulling weeds and I finally found a product that works like a charm...

I love this product! (and I'm not getting paid to say that) :) I use the  "Southern" version since I'm in the south, but all versions work equally well.

Here's a close up look at the directions.

One more close up.

This truly works for me. I discovered it a few years ago and have been using it ever since.  I've bought it at Walmart and Target, but I think you can get it on Amazon too. I usually pay around $15 for it.

You just basically sprinkle it on the mulch around your flowers. Be sure not to get it ON your flowers. Also be sure not to get it on the grass because it will kill it. One thing to remember is it won't get rid of existing weeds, so you have to pull up the weeds that are already there. But, once you apply it, you won't have to pull weeds for about 3-4 months.

If you plan on freshening up your garden with new mulch, it's best to apply the mulch first, then sprinkle the Preen over the new mulch, then water in lightly. The water activates the Preen so it'll start working.

One more important point...you're not supposed to disturb the area after you apply the Preen. If the mulch gets disturbed, it won't work. I found this out when I sprinkled some Preen around some bushes by the deck. After only a week, I was getting weeds again. This was the only spot where the weeds came back. I couldn't figure out why. Then one day I caught my youngest son digging tunnels in the mulch for his matchbox cars to drive on. :) They really mean it when they say "Don't disturb the area after you apply Preen."

I really do think this is a fantastic product and it really works. :) Thanks for visiting!

My Backyard-Early Spring Pics

Well, it's early Spring here and my garden is slowly starting to perk back up. It's definitely shorts and tank top weather and I can hear the ice cream truck going down the street as I type this. Today I'm sharing some pics of my backyard. The grass isn't green yet, but hopefully after a few more weeks it will be. I showed a few of these pics on Instagram this weekend. You can find me at chels70. Be sure to check back later this week when I'll be sharing my favorite product for weed control. :) I practically don't have to pull weeds all summer!

This is a pink jasmine. The flowers are pink when they start to bud, but they're white after they open. It smells so good!

That's my bridal wreath on the right. That's Elvis and Priscilla on the bottom left. :)

Here's a closer shot of the bridal wreath. It'll bloom for about 6 weeks from March through April.

On either side of the arbor are my bottle brush trees. I'll have to take another pic when they're in full bloom in a couple of weeks. Behind the arbor in the corner is a butterfly bush. In a couple of months it'll be taller than the fence.

Here's some more bottle brush trees. That plant to the right of the bottle brush trees is a shrimp plant.

And here's a close up of the butterfly bush. In front of it is a couple of chinese fringe plants. They are purple in the winter and green in the summer.

Here are some of my knock out roses. We just pruned everything back here a couple of weeks ago. I love how easy knock out roses are.

Here are a couple of crepe myrtles. Behind them you can see the english ivy growing up the fence. I originally had the ivy inside the house in a little four inch pot. It kept wilting, so my husband literally just plunked it out here to see what it would do and it really took off!

I just planted this geranium and zinnia.

I also just planted these petunias. I'm not sure how long they'll be able to take the heat though.  I have great expectations of cooking with that rosemary on the table too. We'll see how that pans out. Ha!

Here's a shot of the patio.

Well, that's it! Don't forget to come back to see my post on weed control later this week. I hate pulling weeds and finally found something that works like a charm. :)

The Kitchen Tour

I'm sharing my kitchen today. It's probably my favorite room in the house. All pics enlarge when clicked. I got this buffet at World Market. Gosh, I love that store!

You can't see it really well in this pic, but I'm loving my new dough bowl! I just filled it with little balls from Dollar Tree.

I like my red canisters from Hob Lob.

We recently got a new dishwasher. Our old one was so loud. This one is nice and quiet. We have to look at the controls to see if it's actually running, because it's so quiet.

This is one of my favorite lamps. I got it at Hob Lob.

Easter Bunnies

I've gotten a few emails asking for some close up shots of my Easter bunnies and info. on where I purchased them, etc. Well, ask and you shall receive! I really appreciate all the emails and comments y'all have sent me!

This little guy came from Tuesday Morning. I paid a whopping $1.49 for him after Easter last year.

Both of these came from Ross. They were $2 each after Easter.

These also came from Tuesday Morning. They were only $1.49 each. I think I purchased these way after Easter. Like in July. My Tuesday Morning has lots of holiday decor year round. You just have to check the back of the store to find the deals. :)

Mr. Cable Knit bunny came from Kirklands last year.

One of my favorites. He came from Ross a couple of years ago.

I've had this guy for about 20 years. He came from Big Lots.

This bunny came from Ross. Love him.

I know this isn't a bunny, but I got a couple of emails asking where I got him. I purchased him at Dollar Tree. He was all kinds of crazy colors, so I spray painted him white.

This little grouping came from Big Lots probably about 15 years ago. A lot of my decor is apparently really old. :)

These guys came from a local grocery store. They were brown and I painted them heirloom white.

I forgot to photograph this for my Easter Decor post. It's a cute little door hanger. It's from Big Lots but I've seen  some similar ones at Dollar Tree.

These were from Kirklands last year.

Miss Bunny came from Tuesday Morning. Again, I think my mom got her for me in  July or August.

Well, hope this helps! Let me know if y'all have any more questions. :)
