Hello and happy Monday! If y'all researched my little clue last week, you probably figured out I was making a farmhouse style sign for my kitchen. :)
And here it is...
I love it!!! I still can't believe I made this! The great part is that it didn't cost me a penny! I already had everything on hand for this little project. Here's the piece of scrap wood I started with...
I just wiped it down with a damp rag and used a foam brush to put a little grey wash on it. All I did was brush on some watered down grey paint. The pic below is when I first started brushing on the paint.
I was running low on black ink, so I just printed out the outlines of the letters.
You can click HERE to go to my friend Selene's blog to see her easy peasy way of transferring the letters to wood. I used her method and it worked perfectly!
After transferring the letters, I used a small brush to fill them in with white acrylic paint. I couldn't wait to hang it above my pantry!
Here's a close up. You can see the wood still had some screws in it and some dings. My hubby offered to remove the screws, but I said to leave them. I figured they added to the "rustic" look I was going for. :)
I'm thrilled with how it turned out! Thanks again, Selene for your excellent tutorial!
I almost paid big bucks for one of these not too long ago. Boy am I glad I waited!
Hope y'all have a great week ahead!

ReplyDeleteThat's so cute Lisa! I need one of those for over the doors in our kitchen!
ReplyDeleteThat looks great, Lisa! I keep wanting to make one too. So you say it's really easy?
ReplyDeleteLisa!!! Your Grocery sign turned out sooooooo good!!! I love the grey wash you added! You're right- the screws and dings are perfect for the rustic look!!! I'm so happy your sign turned out awesome or I would have felt responsible for a project fail! lol
ReplyDeleteHow in the world do you just print the outline of letters? You must tell me this as it saves in ink big time!!
I did take a peek over at her blog to see what you were making and I love it! Yours turned out so great. It's nice that you were able to make it with things you already had on hand.
ReplyDeleteThe sign looks great! Wonderful job!
ReplyDeleteWell, I'll be darned. Look at you!!! That is a great looking sign. Really wonderful! It is really perfect. xo Diana

I love it!! The signs I see in stores just don't have that rustic look. Perfect!!

Lisa - You did it again! You created such a nice touch to an already gorgeous door! Still loving the black door, wonderful door hardware, and the wreath, too! You make this project look so easy to do - I may have to get brave and try it! Where in Hobby Lobby did you find the graphite paper? I searched for it a while back in the drawing/art supplies and even asked a HL employee who wasn't able to help me locate it. Thanks for sharing this - all of the neat touches you're adding to your home have made it spectacular!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carolyn! You're so sweet! My hubby already had the graphite paper. It was left over from his stained glass project and he bought it at a local art supply store, so I'm not much help. :) I know Selene bought hers at Hobby Lobby though, so maybe you could email her and ask what section of the store it was in. I'm not sure where it would be. Hobby Lobby seems to put things in weird places sometimes. :) I remember I found my plate hangers on an end cap in the lamp department, which didn't make any sense to me. Lol! Let me know if you try this project. I'd love to see your finished product!
DeleteIt turned out fabulous....I love it hung over the door!!!!

You did a great job! Your sign looks like something you would spend a lot of money on. Have a great week
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kim! Gotta love projects like this that don't cost a dime! :) Enjoy your week!
DeleteSuper-cute sign, Lisa, and very clever! I just love when something is simple, inexpensive and makes a big impact!
ReplyDeleteI love this!! What stain did you use for the wood? I'm thinking I may make one this weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi Sydney! I actually just used watered down grey paint. :) I used Valspar paint and the color was "cathedral stone." I added a little water to it and brushed it on with a foam brush. Hope that helps! :)
DeleteThat is adorable! I'm going to have to try to make my own sometime. In the meantime, I just keep paying big bucks for distressed signs. :)
ReplyDeleteLove this! I saw it on Instagram and was glad to see the whole post here. Perfect for over your pantry door!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Richella! It was so much easier than I anticipated. :) Happy Friday!
DeleteLove how this turned out! Very pretty!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love free projects like this!
