Drum roll please...I'm finally posting about the painted kitchen cabinets! :) This will mostly be a picture post and I'll be back soon with a tutorial on exactly how we painted the cabinets, what products we used, and the whole process. But for now, just enjoy these pics. :) Oh, and you can scroll to the bottom to see some VERY before pics of our kitchen before we got new counters and wood floors. I've never shown those on the blog before. :)
Edited to add: You can now click HERE to see the full tutorial explaining how we painted our cabinets with lots of pictures and all the products we used.
We still have to replace the back splash with white subway tile, but for now, here's a look at the new white cabinets...
We've replaced almost all our appliances in the past few years and chose to stick with white. Maybe we're just rebels or something, but I just really still love white appliances. :)
There were literally like 147 shades of white paint, but I think the one we chose matches our appliances pretty well.
I might just love the furniture feet we added more than the cabinets themselves!
After we finished painting the cabinets, my hubby said it looked a little "vanilla" and plain. So I switched out the white wire basket for this one and added some cookbooks, my colorful measuring cups, and some bright cupcake liners in a jar to brighten things up a bit.
I also switched around the tops of the cabinets. I just shopped the house for "new" things to put up there.
I used to have a big chalkboard next to the birdcage below. I finally retired it and moved the iron piece and vase over here.
I can't wait to show y'all how easy it was to add the feet to the cabinets. I think it only cost about $36 for the whole project! I just think it adds so much to the cabinets. Kinda makes them look more expensive or something.
This is the buffet in the breakfast area. I made a small change on here too.
And here it is...I added some Dollar Tree berries to my Target Dollar Spot IKEA knock off planter. Love how it looks now!
Here's a close up of the paint. We're really happy with how it turned out. I'll try to get the painting tutorial up soon. I also plan on doing an updated post in about 6 months and another one in about a year to let you know how well they've held up. So far, so good. :)
Now here's an old pic of what my kitchen looked like before we got new counters and wood floors. I've never shown these before.
White laminate counters and white linoleum floors. :)
Here's the same view right after we got the new counters and wood floors. This was about the time I realized I really wanted to paint the cabinets white. I didn't mind them so much when we had white counters and floors, but with the wood floors, it just seemed to be too many conflicting wood colors or something. There were too many shades of brown with the cabinets, counters and floor.
And finally how it looks today. I think the white cabinets help to break up the brown counters and floors. Next up...replacing the back splash with white subway tile. :)
Whew! That was a long post! I'm so glad to have all that painting behind me. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. :) If y'all have any questions, feel free to leave me a comment and I'll answer them. :)
Thanks for visiting and I hope you all have a wonderful day!

ReplyDeleteThanks, Dawn! I waited a long time to paint mine too. Mostly because the maple cabinets were one of our biggest upgrades when we built this house and I just couldn't convince my hubby to paint over them. Lol! Now we're both glad we did. :)
DeleteWhat a gorgeous update to your kitchen!! They turned out so pretty :)

What a huge transformation - looks great! Love those furniture feet that you added - definitely adds a custom feel to the space!

DeleteHi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteSo lovely to meet you! I saw your beautiful new kitchen featured at Maria Elena's and had to pop over to see all the gorgeous details. Isn't it wonderful how many shades of white there are?! My own kitchen is also white and I wouldn't have it any other way! Love your accents and checkered back splash. Simply charming, all of it! Enjoy!
Poppy@poppyview.blogspot.com
What a beautiful job you did redoing your kitchen! Love your cabinets and your new counters and floors. It looks like a whole new space. I personally like your back splash. Its two toned design compliments your countertop nicely. Subway tile is so expected now that I find its becoming boring!
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's funny because I never thought about redoing the back splash until my hubby and counter guy pointed it out. I blame them for getting me thinking about it. Lol! I actually don't mind the checkered part as much now that the cabinets are white. It bugged me a lot more when the cabinets were maple for some reason. :)
DeleteWow -wow! I love it! I love the color you used for the cabinets set against the wood floor, and that photo of the curtains in your dining area. It is all lovely! Also, I love, love that red Kitchen Aid Mixer. I have a black one that I use all the time, but there is something about those red ones (like the color makes a difference. ha ha)
ReplyDeleteYou did an absolutely beautiful job!
Your kitchen cabinet makeover is gorgeous Lisa! I am so in love with white cabinets and all the light they bring into the house. I also love your "feet". I'm still looking for feet to add to my cabinets but mine must be a weird distance from the floor because so far nothing has fit the space between the cab and the floor. Congrats on being featured alongside my kitchen makeover at Imparting Grace!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Patti
Thank you, Patti! Congrats to you too! Your kitchen makeover is amazing!! I bet we both feel like we have brand new kitchens. :) Enjoy the weekend!
DeleteOh, Lisa! I know you must be so proud, and you should be!! All that hard work paid off--your kitchen is transformed!! It's absolutely amazing the difference that paint can make, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for joining Grace at Home--I'm featuring you this week!!
Wow...that a transformation! My kitchen cabinets are about the same tone as yours before painting. I am currently anticipating painting mine in the near future and will be looking for that tutorial! And those little legs completely make the new look! Love them!
ReplyDeleteI love how the white paint just brightened your kitchen right up! Also, I love the feet too:) It's pretty. found at the dedicated house make it pretty linky. Have a great week:)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I just love a bright, white kitchen. :) I'm so glad we thought to add those feet too. Thanks for visiting!
DeleteI agree that the funiture feet MAKE this kitchen! Wonderful job!
ReplyDeleteI like the painted cabinets-- looks so bright, crisp and clean! The furniture feet add a nice detail too.
ReplyDeleteI for one, live in an old house--so seeing pictures of your kitchen; right off--gave me OUTLET ENVY!
you have plenty of electrical outlets in your kitchen- dare I say, your whole house?!
Pretty kitchen!
Patricia
Oh so nice! We are considering putting in wood floors: we now have parquet which is throughout the house.. not crazy about it! what kind of wood did you use? color? I would love to know. We did replace the plain white wall backsplash with white subway tiles and love love it. We got the slightly beveled edge tiles which are just a little bit unique! This looks just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful Lisa!! I love your white appliances! Ours are black (with our white cupboards) & we just can't justify switching them out just yet!) I love the handles you chose and especially the lil feet you added! Such character!
ReplyDeleteKendra @ www.joyinourhome.com
Thanks, Kendra! We had such a hard time picking out hardware. There were almost too many choices out there. :) So glad you stopped by! Hope you have a great week!
DeleteBeautiful kitchen! It is so light and refreshing now. Thanks for sharing at our Motivational Monday party! Be sure to stop by again tomorrow to link up another post.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a transformation! I have these same type cabinets and white countertops as we speak. This is great inspiration. I am in the process of updating my kitchen slowly. I love the dark wood flooring too. Great job!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It was a little work, but SO worth it! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteOh my goodness, what a great job you did on your kitchen! So bright and beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Janine!! I was totally ready to get rid of those maple cabinets. :) I wish we would have painted them years ago! :)
DeleteThank you so much for giving us such kind of handy content which will be most useful to me as well as others.

ReplyDeletePeople are said to mellow with age, and the same can be said of Walnut kitchen cabinets. Walnut wood tends to mellow and lighten in color with age, creating a beautiful look for home interiors.
ReplyDeleteThis kitchen is absolutely breathtaking! I love everything about it
