I've been seeing a lot of bloggers painting their interior doors black. I really liked this look and wanted to try it on my pantry door. I don't think I've ever shared this little corner of my kitchen before.
I just love this new doorknob!
Okay wait...I'm getting ahead of myself...first let me show you the before pics: |
Okay, that's enough of that...here are a ton of after pics. (at the bottom of this post, I'll tell where we bought everything, the paint color, etc.)
Ta-da! We were going to just paint the existing door, but a new one was only $19, so we just bought one of those and painted it. Our old one was painted with oil based paint and the new black paint was latex and we didn't want to mess with all the sanding, etc. to get the old oil based paint off.
Love, love, love this knob! My hubby even painted the screws green to match. :)
I like how the yellow forsythia wreath pops on the black door.
My oldest son looked at the new door and said "It looks like it leads to Narnia or something. Or maybe it belongs on platform 9 3/4." Ha! He wasn't impressed with the new door. :)
I put two coats of paint on. It's funny...I'm left handed, but the only thing I do with my left hand is write. I use my right hand for everything else. I even painted this door with my right hand. I may write with my left hand, but I paint, bat, golf, throw a ball, use scissors, etc. with my right hand. (you know...because I'm ALWAYS golfing, playing ball, etc.--ha!) I can even write with my right hand a little, but only if I'm writing really big letters. Weird, huh?
We got new oil rubbed bronze hinges too.
This pic below is probably the best representation of the actual paint color. Kind of a dark grayish/black.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to put this rack back up because it meant putting holes in my new door, but I really needed the storage space.
My oldest son took this picture when we were at the Japanese Tea Gardens in San Francisco. I love it!
"The Scream" on the left was made by my youngest son in graphics design class last year and the subway art on the right was just something I whipped up on the computer. It lists our favorite places in San Francisco.
Okay, here's all the details...
This is the type of closure we used. The new door knob is a dummy knob, so it just screws to the front of the door (you can't actually turn the knob, you just pull straight out and it'll open) and there's not a doorknob on the inside of the pantry now. We bought this at Home Depot for $6.97.
These are the new oil rubbed bronze hinges. We also bought these at Home Depot. They were $7.98.
This is the doorknob. I got it at Hob Lob for $11.99 (although I used a coupon and got it for 40% off) It also came in red. It didn't come with screws, so my hubby used some gold ones he had on hand and painted them green to match.
*Paint color: Ben Moore "Wrought Iron" color matched at S.W.
*New pantry door (standard 6 panel 24" already primed) at Home Depot for $19.
*I used a command hook to hang the wreath. I didn't want to use the over the door holder anymore. :)
If y'all have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. :)

I love that color! I think I saw that "Dear Lillie" used that same color in her brother's house makeover. I wrote it down because I like it. My interior doors are painted dark brown, but sometimes I think I should repaint them black. It's just SO much work though, so I haven't done it. Love that cute door knob you used too. Painting one door like that is a great way to add pizazz to a space.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. That looks awesome! The black door and the knob are just perfect! The pantry is a pretty great place to Narnia it is!!

The door looks awesome, Lisa! I actually thought it was brown at first, but then realized it was truly black. The wreath looks great on it!

Hi Lisa
ReplyDeleteLove this door -- it really does look magical! Especially love the door knob back plate from hobby lobby -- beautiful! Catherine
Thank you, Catherine! I almost bought an extra door knob just in case something happens to it! LOL! Hope you're having a wonderful day!
DeleteLisa, I think it looks awesome! You were clever to add a pretty doorknob. You've created a little focal point from something that would otherwise just be utilitarian. Great job! Thank you for joining the Grace at Home party!
ReplyDeleteI cannot tell you enough how much I love both the black interior door color and the unique door knob you have there! I have been looking for one of a similar nature for some time no, with no avail. It seems almost like you have to buy the right home along with one like that(or grow up in one at least)!
