September Ramblings

Hello! How is your week going? There's been a slight drop in temps, so I'm a happy camper. On a side note, I hate camping. Lol.

So, I said the word "treat" the other day and look who came running...

Side note: I think it's time I replace that iron scroll above the doorway. I'm thinking of making another sign, like the one I made above our pantry. Maybe a "farmer's market" sign or something?

She understands a lot of words. For example, when I say "bird" she runs to the living room window because she knows that's where she can usually see them. They tend to hang out in the trees and fountain right outside that window.

And when I say "garbage truck" she runs to the dining room window because that's where she can see the street where the garbage men are. She loves to watch the big garbage truck. Ha! She has quite the vocabulary for a feline. ;)

Anyway, I mentioned how I recently touched up these chairs and this bench with my favorite spray paint. It's amazing what a few minutes of sprucing up can do.

Do y'all make your bed every day?

I do. I can't start my day without a freshly made bed. I think I've made it every single day for the past 25 years.

So, I've had these pictures on this little shelf by my pantry forever...

The one on the left is a picture my oldest son took while we were vacationing in California. It's the Japanese Tea Gardens...

I remember being impressed with his photography skills.

And the one on the right is a painting my youngest made when he was little. It's a rendition of "The Scream" by Edvard Munch...

I thought he did a pretty good job, especially for being so young. Here's a side by side of his version (on the left) and the real one (on the right)...
Every time I think of re-doing these shelves, I can't bring myself to take these pictures down. Do you find yourself doing that too?

Well, I guess that's all the rambling for now.

Y'all have a great day!

  2. Oh yes! I have art that my sons did in elementary school hanging upstairs. It's very special to me and it will stay. :)

  3. I have also kept all the art work that the kids did during their younger years. Those are my treasures! :) I even put ornaments on my small Christmas tree every year that they made for me when they were in elementary school. You just have to keep those pictures! Our little dog is the same. It is amazing how many words they know, although she doesn't like much the garbage men. LOL And yes, I do also make my bed every day. Can't imagine not to. Your dining room table and chairs look beautiful. Enjoy your day. Maria

  4. Your boys are so talented and I love that you keep up those precious works of art. I cannot wait to see your new sign above the door way. LOL I make my bed every day too. It just feels so good to get into a nicely made bed at the end of each day. Have a super duper week.

  5. I'm impressed with your cat understanding so much! I thought only dogs knew words like that. Ha! Your son is a very good artist and photographer! I can understand why you don't want to part with those pictures. I will probably shock you, but I do not make up my bed every day. Even though I'm a bit of a clean freak, there are some days when the bed stays unmade. Our bedroom is upstairs, so I don't always see it. I did make it up today though. I love it when it's made up. It does make me feel good!

  6. I used to talk to my cat and she answered back with a hearty meow every single time. She was a great conversationalist and I miss her. I have had a "farmer's market" sign on my list for about a year now. I guarantee you make yours first! AND I totally get it about the kids' pictures. I have pantry doors that are covered in my kids' old artwork. It looks disgraceful, but it is sweet and I cannot get myself to move even one paper. They are all hung up right where they placed them. I even wrote a post about it...I called it my wall of shame...because it is not decorated or neat, just filled with memories. Your display is lovely. I wouldn't change a thing! :)

  7. I hate camping too!!! When I read that, I was like "oh my, another thing we have in common!" My hubby took Lily camping a couple weeks back and asked if I wanted to go. I was like, HECK TO THE NO!!!!! You both have yourselves a ball with the dirt, mosquito's and hiking. Ethan and I will stay and enjoy our indoor plumbing. Haha!
When Ethan is older I'll make the sacrifice for the sake of memories but it would of been such a chore with a baby I think.
Anywho...that's one smart kitty you have!
Love that you keep your boys' art after all those years! Such a good momma!

  9. I am not into camping....I like to sleep in my own bed and take a shower every day. LOL!!!! Those critters do have quite the vocabulary don't they? Our dogs know a ton of words, so many in fact that we started spelling certain things and of course now they know what the spelling means too! I don't think I could take those precious pictures down either....they are just too special!!!
    Have a great weekend!!!

  10. So cute about how much Holly understands...they are such amazing little furbabes! Most of the time I'm not really sure who knows more, Abby or us, but I'm pretty sure it's Abby!

We did lots of camping when our kiddos were little, and I actually really enjoyed it; but that came to a screeching halt when we moved to AZ...way too many creepy crawlies & slithery things!

That's sweet about the pictures your boys did. Just wait until you have grandchildren! It's a good thing we have lots of hallways in our home, because my gallery walls keep growing!

    Have a great weekend!

  11. I have no desire to be camping! The Hilton or Hyatt without a remote is my idea of roughing it! :)

No, I don't make my bed every day. Depends on how my back is doing and if I need to lie back and ice it. I'm sure my mother is probably shaking her head in Heaven about it too! :)

I wouldn't change those pictures either. The boys are both very talented and I think it's important for kids' art to be shown in a home. A boost for their self-esteem.
