Changes in the Dining Room

I hinted at a change in the dining room the other day. Here's what it looked like BEFORE with the leaf removed and just four chairs around the table...

I liked having the extra chairs over by the window, but grew tired of it over time.

(Notice how the lamp cord was hidden by the slipcovered chair. I'll explain more in a minute.)

So...I put the leaf back in and moved all the chairs back to the table. Here's the new look...

I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep the slips and pillows on the end chairs, but I think they'll stay.

As weird as it sounds, it actually feels like there's more room in there now.

I wanted to do this for some time, but I also knew I wanted to keep this floor lamp in there. The problem was that without the slipcovered chair next to the lamp, there was no place to hide the cord. And y'all KNOW how I feel about exposed cords. ;)

So, here's what I did. I remembered this table I had in storage. It had a bottom shelf that I could hide the cord under.

See? No cords in sight!

I taped the cord up one leg and onto the underside of the bottom shelf. :)

I still want to replace that trio of sunburst mirrors with a single mirror, but haven't found "the one" yet.

My little photo bomber.

I think I'm going to enjoy having room for six at this table again.

I have a lot more room under the window now.

Holly watched me move everything around and she seems pleased with the new arrangement. She keeps hopping from one chair to another and is constantly hiding under one of the slips. If she had opposable thumbs, I'm certain she'd give me a thumbs up. ;)

We hardly ever use our dining room and I've often thought about turning it into a living room. We'll see...maybe one day. :)

Thanks for stopping by and y'all have a great day!

  6. The slip covered chairs look so pretty and soft against your beautiful hardwood floors, Lisa! And I always look forward to your tips on hiding cords - going to do the tape trick in our living room. My dilemma is a dark cord against light tile. Have been tempted to paint the cord to camo it. :)

  7. I love your new furniture arrangement! I'm a fan of different chairs on the end of the dining table anyway. You're lucky to have such a spacious dining room. Mine is small. Great idea on how you hid the lamp cord too!

  10. I really like the changes you've made and you are so right, it makes the space look bigger! Amazing what little changes do :) I also like how you kept the slipcovers and pillows on the 2 chairs. It's a nice difference :)

  12. I like how that looks, too, Lisa! It gives your beautiful wood floors a bit more presence. You are very clever with cords. I have a bunch of cord covers that I made, so I typically slap one of those on any cord I cannot stand to see. It's funny the little things that tweak our "irritation" button! I'm so glad Holly approves!

    Warm hugs,
    Carol
