A Few Small Changes

How is everyone? We've been enjoying the last few weeks of summer, but boy is it hot!

I've had a busy day...I mopped the wood floors, washed/changed sheets, did four loads of laundry, and started some BBQ chicken in the crock pot. I think all I have left now is to empty the dishwasher and get the corn on the cob ready to go with the chicken. I'm trying something new with the corn. I'm using a recipe from Tiffani Thiessen that has sriracha sauce, mayo, and a few other ingredients.  We're spreading it on the corn on the cob instead of butter. I'll let you know if it's a hit. :)

So I've been making some small changes around the house. I got the urge to simplify/declutter things.

Let's start in the dining room...

I removed everything off the kidney table and only left the soup tureen on the buffet.

It sure is a lot easier to dust now. :)

I like the more streamlined look. I know I'll change it up again, but for now I'm loving it.

I removed the tray I had on the dining table and replaced it with this simple glass hurricane.

The silver cake plate hopped off the kidney table and over to this corner piece.

I think the only thing I changed on this round table was replacing the green boxwood ball with a candle on that little stand.

On the kitchen table, I removed the hydrangeas from that basket. I just got tired of constantly rearranging them when Holly poked her head into there. :) Yep, she would jump up there and poke her nose around that basket.

I love this basket. I bought two of them at Kohl's and with my coupon, they hardly cost a thing.

I added our coasters inside the basket. After staining/painting our kitchen table, I want to make sure we preserve the top, so I've trained the boys to always use a coaster.

In the guest bath, I removed the lamp and decorative plate. I like the cleaner look.

Above is the other burlap basket I got at Kohl's.

I guess that's about it. I did try removing a few things from my kitchen counters, but ended up putting them right back because we use them regularly. All it took was one time of having to go to the pantry to get something for me to put it back on the counter. #lazy

I'm getting ready to photograph a small change we made to our kitchen cabinets and will hopefully get that post up later this week.

Y'all have a great day!

  1. MMMkk, let's commiserate about how hot it is. I'm melting!! My plants are dying. I'm done now. Trying so hard not to complain but it's impossible.

You have such pretty furniture and it really shows up now. It feels really good to clear the slate sometimes. I predict that inspiration will hit you when it cools and you'll be decorating some of those surfaces again. :)

  2. I'm sooooo over the heat! We finally got some rain the other night.... after the storm we discovered the wind had blown everything off the porch and broke all my flower pots. I'm done......bring on fall!!!!
Love all the changes you made around the house! I'm trying a new sink skirt out under my sink but I'm about ready to put the doors back on. I don't like not being able to see under the sink when looking for things....however Miss Gracie seems to see everything just fine. @@
    Have a great week!!!

    1. You're cracking me up, Kendra! I don't know why, but every once in awhile I go through a non clutter phase and remove several pieces from my decor. If nothing else, it sure makes dusting and cleaning easier. :) Hope you're having a good week!

  7. Everything looks so nice, Lisa! How funny about Holly exploring the hydrangeas - has she tried to hide in the basket on the table yet? I can just envision her doing that! :) The high temps we're having are pretty overwhelming for my container plants - watering them twice a day and they're starting to struggle. Hope we get rain soon! Have a great week!

  8. Lisa,
Everything looks so pretty. You have such pretty pieces. I know you guys are so over the heat but we just got summer here in Chicago a few weeks ago. Our summer was full of rain and cooler temps and we are finally seeing warm temps and sunshine. I know you guys are ready for a cool down. Have a great week.

  9. I know you must be happier having things easier to take care of and more organized. I think that's the best part of editing! It's easy to get caught up having a lot of stuff around that you don't really see anymore because you're used to it.

  10. I'm loving your simplified decor!! Sometimes it's nice to just have a few things up at a time :) You had me laughing about training your boys to use coasters. Could you come train my husband? lol.
I can't wait to see what you did to the kitchen cabinets!

  13. Looks great! I think we all need a change now and then. I don't do a lot of seasonal decorating ~ just don't have the space ~ but I am anxious for a few fall things and great smelling candles! Not sure if I've mentioned it but I am a "candleholic" and no, I don't want a 12 Step program. LOL
