I wanted to show more pics of my backyard now that everything is greening up and blooming. This is mostly so I can keep track of when things start blooming. :)
Edited to add: You can click
HERE to see our patio makeover.

The knock out roses are doing really well, but the crepe myrtles haven't started blooming yet. It won't be long though. |
|
We bought that pergola at Target. It's part of the Smith and Hawkins line. The cover is retractable. |
|
That's a dwarf crepe myrtle on the left. It's ahead of the others with all its leaves. |
|
We recently bought this patio set at Walmart. It came with the striped pillows on the love seat and we bought the black and white ones at Garden Ridge for $5 each. |
|
You can see the orange esperanza blooming here on the right. I have three yellow ones and two orange. They bloom all summer long. |
|
I really wanted a bridge in the backyard, so my hubby built one for me! |
|
We have a couple of fountains back here too. It's very relaxing to listen to the water. |
|
We used to have a wooden playset for the kids right here. When they got too old for it, we tore it down and my hubby used the wood to build these adirondack chairs and the bench. :) It's nice to still have a little bit of the playset back here. |
|
We're definitely back to mowing once a week now. After living here for about a year, we finally broke down and bought a riding lawn mower because there's so much grass. Now the kids don't mind mowing. :) |
|
That's a blue plumbago to the right of the pink rose. It should be blooming soon. |
|
This is "Baldie" our bald cypress tree. It's the fastest growing tree I've ever had. It provides some much needed shade in the summer too. |
|
Here's a close up of the bottle brush tree. Love these blooms. The bees love them too. :) |
|
Here's a better pic of the chairs and bench my hubby built with the wood from the playset. I love to sit under that tree and read a book with a big glass of sweet tea . Very relaxing. :) Those pillows came from Garden Ridge too. They were all $5.
|
|
My mom gave me these St. Joseph's amaryllis bulbs last fall. This is the first time I've seen them bloom. I think they're so pretty. |
|
You can see the little fairy door on the tree to the right. |
Well, that's all for now. I'll update again when the plumbago and vitex tree are blooming. Thanks for visiting!

Amazing and inspiring! Did I already ask you where you live? We are in Rockwall. Our yard is so much small than yours. At our last house we had a pond but the yard was much bigger. We are trying to figure out how to fit one in here. :)
ReplyDeleteLisa, your yard is beautiful! It's so big too...I love it. The little bridge is a perfect spot of whimsy. Your husband is a very talented builder to create that furniture from the play set. The whole sitting area is wonderful! My daughter has a bottle brush tree and it's gorgeous when it blooms.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the visit!
xo

You really have a big backyard! It's just beautiful with all of the flowers bushes and trees. Your husband is super handy!! I LOVE the bridge and the furniture he built. I know you must really enjoy the heck out of your backyard! Love it! :)
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
P.S. Fishtail Cottage has a garden party every Wednesday if you want to check it out. This would be a great post to link!
Your yard looks beautiful, Lisa! Is your grass greener in the summer time than in the winter? Our summer grass is Bermuda and as long as it gets water, it's very green. In the late Fall, when it finally starts to cool a bit at night, everyone over-seeds with Oregon Rye grass (we generally don't because The Man needs a respite from mowing....lol), which does very well through the winter. We have Bottle Brush trees here in AZ, too. We had a beautiful one in the front yard of our previous home. The hummingbirds loved it!
ReplyDeleteYour yard is beautiful! The flowers and furniture are wonderful. I love Adirondack chairs, they look great.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Pat! I hope the flowers keep blooming for awhile longer. It'll probably get too hot for the potted ones soon. :)
DeleteYour backyard is really beautiful! I love how manicured it is and all the different seating areas you have. Such a great idea to reuse the wood from the playset too. Your husband is obviously good with carpentry. I like the pergola too. We need something like that for shade on our back deck. It's too hot to use in the summer.
ReplyDeleteAs a fellow Texan, I know how our yards can suffer in the summer. Yours looks fabulous!
ReplyDeletePopping in from Oh, Mrs. Tucker!
Yes, this Texas heat can really do some damage on the grass and flowers. :) July and August can be brutal. LOL! Our water bill always goes way up in the summer. :)
DeleteYour backyard is so pretty! Everything around here is greening up really nice but it will be zapped soon due to the heat! I live in AZ.I found your blog via Maria's linky party, I hope you come stop by and follow me as well. :)

Hi Lisa, I'm also a native Texan living on a mountaintop in Tennessee! I know Texas heat for sure. I did use container plants in Houston/Kingwood and they thrived with lots of watering. Your yard looks great and I love the sculpted flower beds. I also found you on Maria's party. Thanks for sharing,
ReplyDeleteHelen

You've got such a nice back yard, Lisa! I love your roses. I miss the ones we had at our old house, but I'm hoping to get at least one in here at our new place. How great that your husband was able to turn the old playset into outdoor furniture! A nice way to keep those memories going.
ReplyDeleteYou have a HUGE backyard! And you are making so beautiful and welcoming! Great job....

What a beautiful yard. Thanks for the tour!
ReplyDeleteI love your backyard! How do you stay on top of the weeds in the beds? I love working in my backyard but the weeds can be so discouraging sometimes! The furniture your husband built is so neat!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful backyard and I loved the tour. Loved the seating under the tree and that bridge is awesome..

Thank you! We've worked hard on it and now it's nice to just enjoy it. :) Thanks for visiting!
DeleteLovely setting! Such a big backyard...the backyards in SO Ca tend to be quite small! Handy that your hubby re-purposed the swing set into furniture! Happy Mothers Day!!
ReplyDeleteS
Oh how I wish I lived in SO Ca!! That's my dream weather! :) Thank you for your sweet comment, I really appreciate it!
DeleteGreat tour and your bald cypress is to die for... I've tried them several times and our soil simply isn't acidic enough for their liking... I enjoyed the tour! Larry
ReplyDeleteThanks, Larry! We planted that tree in 2001 and try to take a pic every year to record its growth. I still can't believe how fast it grows. It loves water. Seems it can't ever have too much. I've actually seen them growing IN swamps. :) Thanks for your visit!
DeleteIt's all so beautiful! I especially love the bridge! I could walk around your back yard all afternoon:)
ReplyDeleteI love your backyard space!! Everything looks fabulous! Thanks for linking up to our Summer Spruce Up party!
