Rearranging the Tops of My Kitchen Cabinets

The tops of kitchen cabinets are hard to decorate. Sometimes I think about taking everything down, but then it always looks too bare. One thing I've realized is that it seems to look better (to me) if I kind of organize things into groups up there. I think it looks better to have several groups of items rather than just lining everything up in a row. I was getting tired of the current arrangement on the top of my kitchen cabinets. Here are some "before" pics to refresh your memory. :)

And some "after" pics...

It just looks "cleaner" to me. More simplified.

Here's the wheelbarrow I got on clearance at Joann's the other day.

And here's the bee vase from the same clearance sale. :)

I think this corner looks much better with less stuff.

I got some new clear canisters too. I loved my red ones, but I wanted something different to use when the mood strikes. :)

Again, here's a "before" pic...

And here's an "after"

Another "before"

And "after"

One more "before"

And 3 more "after" pics...

I love the simplicity of this corner now.

I got rid of a lot of fake flowers and greenery. I think I like it better this way. I also wanted a more neutral pallet up there so it would be easier decorating for the holidays. :) Y'all have a great day!

  1. Looks great Lisa. The way you've clustered items is really pretty.

I haven't decorated the top of mine since we moved here. It's hard!! I did collect plates to make a collage...put them up there on the wall..hated it. So for now it's empty but haunts me daily.

  2. Looks very nice, Lisa! I think you did very well with your groupings -- little separate vignettes. My ceilings are very high in this house, including the kitchen, so it takes me forever to create the look I want above the kitchen cabinets. I only change it three times a year, because I HATE being on the ladder! I'll be sharing my Fall look soon.

Is it beginning to feel like Fall in her direction, yet? We were having triple digits all last week, but this week is supposed to be in the 90's with rain. Well, we are getting one of our famous 6" rains right now -- drops are falling about 6" apart! Yep, we are famous for those downpours!

  4. I like the changes you made to your cabinet tops. I agree that groups look better. I have simple white platters above mine. Nowadays I think they're building cabinets all the way to the top of the ceiling. I like that look even better.

  5. I really like this look, Lisa (the wheelbarrow is SO cute), I never thought to put things in groups and it really looks great! I pretty much have things on top of my cabinets that I don't have space for anywhere else! lol! I really like what you did!

  6. I think it is so hard to do the top of the cabinets well and not have them look so crowded and really just busy. Your displays and vignettes are fabulous. I love them all. So interesting and eye catching and not busy at all. Thanks so much for linking to Inspire Me. Hugs, Marty
