Gardens, Cherry Limeade Cookies, and a Free Farmhouse Printable

Hey, y'all! :) Is it hot where you live? We're sweltering down here. At least we're still having rain showers from time to time. That helps a bit.

So, did you see this free printable from Laura at Finding Home?

Isn't it darling? I thought it was such a cute summer addition to my kitchen. Click HERE to get yours.

I snapped a few quick pics of my backyard today...

The Crepe Myrtles are going strong and the grass is loving all the rain.

Don't let those pretty pics fool you though...it's HOT back there! After it rained yesterday, there was steam coming off the concrete.

One more thing. If you're local, you MUST try these cookies at HEB...

Oh. My. Goodness. They're good! They totally taste like a cherry limeade at Sonic! They're only available for a limited time, so I'm thinking I might need to stock up. ;)

Hope y'all have a great weekend!

DIY Restoration Hardware Inspired Rolling Cart Reveal

We finally completed our Restoration Hardware inspired rolling cart/bookshelves and I have tons of pics to share. :)

restoration hardware copy cat wood and steel shelving

I could not be more happy with how they turned out! They are exactly how I envisioned them. Oh, and the RH ones retail for about $2500 and we made these for $105!!!!!!!!

The metal straps are one of my favorite parts...

The bars just add to the industrial look that I love.

And the wheels!!! Love those wheels!

This textured basket was one of the first things I bought to decorate these shelves with. I've been buying things for about six months now. Every time I would see something on sale, I would grab it up and store it. :)

I made that boxwood wreath/frame specifically with these shelves in mind.

That basket on the bottom shelf used to be brown with fake ivy in it. I've had it since the 90's. I removed the ivy a long time ago and painted it heirloom white. For now, I'm storing that green throw in it.

I'm loving the garden stool in its new spot by the loveseat.

Of course, bringing in the new bookshelves meant we had to play musical decor with a few things.

This wall above the tufted chair used to have a trio of sunburst mirrors and I switched them out for this plumbago print my son made for me. (the next thing on my list is to replace that lamp with a glass "bubble" lamp from Kirkland's, but I'm afraid the one I want may be too big for that table)

The plumbago print used to be above that demi-lune table below. I just moved it over to the right (above the chair) and moved the fleur de lis above the demi-lune. I'll share before and after pics at the bottom of the post so you'll know what I'm talking about.

The pic below is kind of fuzzy, but it shows another angle of the room. I like the flow so much better now.

In case you were wondering, this is where the trio of sunburst mirrors ended up. I like them much better on this smaller wall in the dining room.

Okay, so here's a few before and afters of the living room...

The next two pictures show what that back corner to the right of the armoire looked like before...

And here's the "after" with the new bookshelves...

Here's a good "before" pic of the sunburst mirrors and the plumbago print... (I liked those sunburst mirrors, but they never seemed quite right in that spot)

And here's the "after"...

Here's the "before" of the dining room with the small floral print above the kidney table...

And again, here's the "after" with the sunburst mirrors. The floral print was moved to the top shelf of the new bookcases.

If you're interested, here's a link to the tutorial we used to make the rolling cart/bookcases...

I was so glad to finally get this piece built. I was never happy with that particular corner of the living room, decor wise. I knew it needed a more substantial piece of furniture, but it took me a long time to make up my mind as to what I wanted. I think this rolling cart definitely fits the bill and it only took two days to make. :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Tropical Storms, Beetles, and Diy Projects

Hello, everyone!

I've been a little absent on social media lately because we've been furiously working on our Restoration Hardware inspired bookshelves. I posted this pic on IG this morning that pretty much sums up my days lately...

Lots of coffee, picking out stain, measuring, painting, and trying to placate little Holly Joaquin who, according to her meows, is not getting enough attention lately. ;)

Here's a little sneak peek of our shelves (pre-staining) I'm probably going to start the staining process today and I'll be sure to share finished pics soon.

One more quick thing...look at this cute FREE summer printable I got...

Wouldn't it be cute in a boys room too?

You can get yours right HERE. It's only available at no cost for two weeks, so hurry if you want one. :)

If you remember, it's from the same sweet blogger (Lucy at Craftberry Bush) that offered this Christmas printable...

And of course, this matching Christmas pillow...

I apparently went a little crazy with these cute VW Beetles last Christmas...

:)

We're hunkering down for Tropical Storm Bill for the next couple of days, but hopefully I'll get a post up soon with our new bookshelves.

Deal Alert: Pom Pom Throw $9.98!

Have I got a steal of a deal for y'all today...My friends on Instagram shared this wonderful deal last night and I just had to pass it on to you. Look at this cute pom pom throw I got at Target for $9.98!

Can you believe that price? It's still $19.99 online, but most stores have lowered the price to $9.98 (not all stores, but a lot) My sweet hubby and son drove to two different Target stores late last night to get it for me.

I love it! First I tried it on the chair in my bedroom...

Ignore the crooked lamp shade. ;) I need to tape a weight to the inside to keep it from doing that.

And currently it's taking up residence in my living room...

target pom pom throw

Such a good deal! I've wanted a pom pom throw for awhile now and was so glad to finally get one. :)

Speaking of deals, I scooped up these little slip ons at Payless for just $10 each! I was just going to get the navy and white striped, but the pink made its way home with me too. :) I thought they would be cute for the summer.

Guess that's all for now. Have you gotten any fantastic deals lately?

Orange Rolls Recipe, Hobnail Goodies, and Baby Birds

Hi everyone! I made something this weekend and I just had to share it with you because it was SO good! They're homemade orange rolls (or orange knots as the recipe states) and they were so easy and delicious!

homemade orange rolls

Here's a link to the recipe I used:

We buy the Pillsbury orange rolls in the refrigerated section all the time, and these were a nice change. They're made with canned biscuits, so they're quick and easy. I just love it when a recipe turns out just like you imagine. :) The scent of oranges just permeates the kitchen while these are baking. Yum!

So this weekend my hubby and I went to Cracker Barrel for lunch. I haven't had their chicken fried chicken with sawmill gravy in so long and it was wonderful! Anyway, as we usually do, when we're done eating, we browse the gift shop. Usually we just pick up some retro candies for the boys (and a few Zots DID make it into our basket this time too) but I got so excited when I saw these hobnail votive holders...

hobnail milkglass

And you know what? They were 70% off!!! They had several sections of home decor that was all marked 70% off. These little hobnail votive holders were only $1.50 each! I grabbed the last two they had. I'm not going to lie...it DID bother me a little that I couldn't get three, you know with the "decorating rule of three" and all. Lol! I love grouping things in 3's. Oh well. The two I got are still pretty.

Here's a closer look...

And here's a pic I shared on Instagram this morning...

janet hill print the art of seduction

One more thing, do y'all remember the eggs I found in the bird nest in my backyard? Here's the pic I shared...

When we checked a couple of days later, there were four eggs. Then we saw this...

newly hatched mockingbird

So cute, right? My son actually took this pic and when he was done, he glanced down and spotted another baby in the grass! I can't believe we didn't step on him while taking pics. I knew we needed to get him back into the nest as soon as possible. I know it's probably an old wives tale, but I've heard you're not supposed to touch the babies or the mom will reject them. I have no idea if it's true and I wasn't interested in touching him anyway, so it was pretty much a moot point.

So, I raced into the house (and yes, I really did run...it was like I thought the poor dear was going to starve in 5 minutes if I didn't get him back to his mama) and I grabbed a plastic cup and plastic spoon.

We very gingerly used the spoon to scoop the baby into the cup and deposited him back in the nest. Whew! Crisis averted. :) As of yesterday, mama bird was taking very good care of her brood and they seem to be thriving. :) Oh, and Nana Diana was right, they are mockingbirds. So cute, aren't they?

We also had this little visitor the other day...

In case you can't tell, this is Franklin the turtle. Yes, I named him. He retracted his head as soon as he saw me coming, but you might be able to see the lettuce I set down in front of him. I don't know if he appreciated it or not. Maybe he would have preferred fly pie? ;) So, that's what's been going on here in the wild kingdom. Hope y'all have a great day!
